The Hypocrisy behind the Entitlement Movement

No day passes when media outlets; be they print, television or radio do not report about current and future entitlement programs in this country. Being what we perceive the media to be, it does not come as a surprise to us here at ‘Consider Common Sense’ since we believe to know their ideology and associated left-leaning templates.

What is scary here is the fact that people are subjected to this daily drumbeat and get unknowingly brainwashed to believe that there is nothing wrong with entitlement programs, in fact, they, the people, do think that the government should provide more to the average tax paying citizen to make life easier for them. It is truly brainwashing by design! It is therefore no wonder that all political campaigns are increasingly being run focusing on future entitlement programs. This happens on both sides of the political spectrum. And while these so called ‘promises’ are being made by the candidates, there is seldom ever anyone who takes them to task over their ‘promises’. In fact, the members of the media have marveled at the well-planned presentations of future entitlements, especially when candidates of the Democrat party were offering these programs.

But does anybody raise the questions:

Do we know what Social Security means?

Who is going to pay for this?

Of course not!

A brief visit into history shows us that the Social Security program first offered by President Franklin D. Roosevelt about 70 years ago was a very good deal. The initial ratio of workers paying into the program to workers receiving the benefits was about 32 to 1. Today, it is 3 to 1. Thirty years later, then President Lyndon B. Johnson introduced Medicare, a great program at the time. Without going into the details for these two entitlements, both of them are going broke. The excess monies paid into the Social Security program were spent over the past thirty plus years by the U.S. government while placing IOU’s into the Social Security Trust Fund.  In a few years, the monies being paid out to recipients will be larger than the monies taking in and after that, 25 years later (in the mid 2040’s) the trust fund will be fully expended. An even worse scenario exists in the Medicare program. There are reasons for this, longer life expectancies etc. But nevertheless, these two entitlement programs are going broke, period! Now then, why in the world would a logical thinking (one that uses common sense) person in America even consider voting for candidates who propose more of these entitlement programs? The answer in our humble opinion is simple: The people have been brainwashed to believe that we need more of these entitlements and they all want to be in on the program. The old adage ‘there is no such thing as a free lunch’ is no longer valid or being taken serious. How else can we explain the battle over the proposals for ‘Universal Health care’ in this country? Almost all Democrat candidates for President have such a plan, they are telling voters how much (or how little) it is going to cost and then they try to convince the average voter that their (the candidate) plan is the best. We have written about the so-called ‘health care crisis’ in America before on September 9 under the heading ‘The Universal Health Care Scam’ since large numbers of uninsured people were being thrown around (please read the article for details) in order to justify the push for insuring them. A few years ago, President George W. Bush and Congress pushed through an ‘Affordable Drugs for seniors’ program and everybody is pitching in for that one. Now, who wanted to come out against cheaper drugs for Grandma and Grandpa, nobody, of course? And generally speaking, it appears to be a successful program. But why would there now be a need for a ‘Universal Healthcare’ program where everybody has to pitch in to make it work? Not to mention the administration of the program which in all likelihood will be the United States government. Does anybody care to ask or find out why that is the responsibility of all citizens to pay into another government run program? This is where the hypocrisy on the part of the politicians becomes crystal clear. On the one hand, they keep talking about doing this for the children and grandchildren to make their future brighter; on the other hand, they are burdening these very children and grandchildren with financial obligations that will make life more difficult for them. Between the existing programs, life will be tougher in the future, so let us not add more entitlement burdens.
