Oh, what a year it has been – Happy New Year

Unlike quite a few others, we do not believe that one can comprehensively do an End-of-Year review in one article. 2009 was hailed and pronounced twelve months ago as the Year of Change and Hope. And a lot of people had believed in 2008 candidate Barack Obama’s campaign promises and slogans and voted for him because they wanted change and hope. But an open minded and serious opinion will have to conclude that those voters only got change so far. Yes, a lot of things called CHANGE happened in America in 2009 and we will list here only a few of them:

  • We got a change from George W. Bush to Barack H. Obama in the Presidency;
  • We got a change in the nearly doubling of the Nations unemployment statistic;
  • We got a change in foreign relations by way of an apologizing President bowing to foreign heads of State, yet we think while the foreigners did not like President Bush at all, they at least respected him while the current White House occupant is somewhat more liked but not at all respected;
  • The Democrat controlled Congress has passed legislation that will burden our future in such debt as to   possibly even bankrupt the country;
  • This was the first year in our history that America has accumulated an annual deficit of well over one trillion dollars and it will not improve any time soon due to the vulgar stimulus packages and other out-of-control spending measures;
  • The American public is being lied to on a daily basis by their elected Democrat Representatives including their President and their liberal media allies.

Now then, what about HOPE? We here at Common Sense University only see hope for America with the mid-term congressional elections, unfortunately not for slightly more than ten months from now. Based on the current mood of the voters some major change could happen when the liberal, wild spending Democrats get their response from their constituents for ignoring their wishes and the Democrats could find themselves out of a job as well. That is for us the only Hope we can see, that is in terms of hope for America. If the current spending trends continue for a few more years, we can envision a bankrupt America!

There is not a single sector in America that has experienced a positive “change and hope” because we do not consider promises (no matter how well presented) real change and hope. The outlook for job creation is grim in America, every corporation and business owner is tightening his/her belt and adjusting for a bad economy and the proposed health care legislation is not something to make them optimistic for the future.

But in conclusion, this country of ours is too big and too strong to be incapable of making the changes it needs when things are not going well for America as a whole. It has happened in the past and this can all happen again in November 2010 when there could be a major re-alignment in Congress. Principles, virtues and fiscal restraint will be the major agenda items during that election and wish as they like, the Democrats in Congress cannot hide or run away from their voting records during 2009.

So, there is – what we call – HOPE we can believe in. With this in mind, we wish everybody a Happy and Prosperous New Year 2010.
