Impeachment of Vice President Cheney

Why should it not surprise us that this just happened in the House of Representatives in Washington D.C.? Yes, it happened! Representative Dennis Kucinich of the 10th Congressional District of Ohio introduced the resolution to impeach Vice President Richard Cheney for “violating his constitutional oath to faithfully execute the office of vice president.” The resolution further states that “Cheney purposely manipulated the intelligence process to deceive the citizens and the Congress of the United States by fabricating the threat of Iraqi weapons of mass destruction to justify the use of U.S. Armed Forces against the nation of Iraq in a manner damaging to our national security interests.”

Mr. Kucinich was the leader of a determined band of anti-war House Democrats and they pushed the resolution against the expressed wishes of the Democrat leadership in the House. It then came to a vote and in a stunning surprise; the House voted 251 to 162 to keep the impeachment measure alive. It was a political stunt by the Republicans who voted in favor to keep the issue on the table, debate it and to have the opportunity to portray Democrats as radical. In a second vote that followed immediately, the House voted 218 to 194 to send the measure to the Judiciary Committee which is controlled by Democrats and it is expected that the measure will die there, i.e., it will not be investigated.

We have in previous months on this site seriously questioned the Democrats in the House of Representatives since they took over control in January of this year; we even have ridiculed some of their previous actions but primarily criticized them for their apparent inability to be effective leaders in doing the people’s business. But when they cringed at this resolution by their colleague Kucinich and did not want him to introduce it, it shows us how far out of the mainstream this representative is. So let us shine some light on this person:

Without going into his background in any detail, Dennis Kucinich is definitely a member of what is commonly known as the far-left of the Democrat Party. He is currently vying for the nomination for President on the Democrat side and is running last or next to last in a field of eight. He also ran for President in 2004 and garnered on average one percent of the Primary votes cast.
In a recent Democrat Presidential debate in Philadelphia, he was asked and he confirmed that “he had seen a UFO”. He felt it necessary to explain that a UFO is known as an “Unidentified Flying Object”. This was probably done to prevent the next questions on “whether or not he had been invited to visit or enter the ‘Mothership’ and communicate with the space aliens”.

Seriously folks, in case you did not follow it close enough, this man is running for President! In that context, it should not be a surprise that he introduced the resolution to impeach the vice president. But it necessitates a few follow-up questions from us here at this site:

·        Mr. Kucinich, why did you not have the courage to impeach President Bush, former Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, former Presidential political advisor Karl Rove and possibly even Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice?

·        Mr. Kucinich, has it been your own idea to pursue this or did maybe a space alien visit you one day and told you to do this?

·        Mr. Kucinich, do you earnestly think that you even have a ‘snowballs chance in hell’ to ever become President of the United States of America?

But our questions do not stop there. We have a few for the people who vote for this person:

·        Voters in the 10th District in Ohio (which includes western part of the City of Cleveland and suburbs of Parma and Cuyahoga Heights), do you truly feel that this man represents you and your interests well in Congress since you elected him ever since 1997?

·        In voting for Mr. Kucinich for the sixth time last year, is this your idea of comic relief for the rest of us in America or are you truly sharing his extreme beliefs?

·        Are you proud that he introduced this resolution to impeach the Vice President?

We here at ‘Consider Common Sense’ are bothered by the fact that this country is so sharply divided over the issue of national security. It is perfectly alright to be anti-war, after all, who likes to see young Americans die on the battlefield? But peace alone and saying so does not do it in the world, never did and never will! Former President Ronald Reagan firmly believed it when he coined the phrase: Peace through Strength. And his beliefs paid off when he built up the military and forced the Soviets to keep pace until Michael Gorbachev realized that it bankrupted the Soviet Union and he simply capitulated. Not one shot was fired and yet we won the Cold War. Compare this to Mr. Kucinich’s campaign slogan: Strength through Peace. Where does he get the belief that if you declare yourself to be peaceful around the world, nobody will respond to this by not being civil and peaceful? Does he really think that we could talk the Iranian government out of their desire to obtain nuclear weapons if we would only talk to them? Where was he during history classes, has he not learned anything from recent history? Does he consider Adolf Hitler just an anomaly (and maybe not a nice person) in history? How naïve can a person be in thinking that there are no evil people in the world, that we, in fact, can prevent people from becoming evil if we would only take them serious and talk to them? But its one thing for people to never quite lose their belief in the tooth fairy, Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny, but it’s another thing when such a person is elected to Congress and shape policy (or at least try to). But then, Dennis Kucinich does not get there without help, he gets elected to office. And therefore, the really scary thing is the plurality of voters in the 10th Congressional District in Ohio who keep voting for Dennis Kucinich to represent them in the House of Representatives. Do they have so little respect for America in general and Congress in particular? We wonder if anybody would care to answer this last question.
