America’s Liberal Media Smear Machine is Back

The selection of Alaska’s Governor Sarah Palin by John McCain to be his Vice-Presidential running mate in this year’s Presidential election has brought out one thing for all to see: The open bias and unvarnished hatred and disdain for everything conservative. While this is nothing new for those of us who have observed the media, they outdid themselves during the past few days; they clearly went overboard with Sarah Palin and it is shameful and outrageous to say the least!

A brief recall of events: Last Friday, the day after the Democrat Convention ended in Denver, Republican candidate John McCain introduced Sarah Palin as his choice for Vice-Presidential running mate and surprised, if not stunned, the nation. Her brief speech showing her gracious acceptance of McCain’s offer showed in the presence of her family somehow that she was not just a good looking woman but that there was something more to her.

The liberal media had hoped for John McCain to pick Democrat turned Independent United States Senator Joe Lieberman and then to jump on the conflicts between the two men such as Pro-Life versus Pro-Choice etc. But when they found out about the surprise McCain had pulled, it took them a few days to come up with their attacks. It all began with a rumor over the weekend on a liberal blog claiming that Sarah Palin had been covering up her daughter Bristol’s pregnancy and giving birth to a baby-boy last April and then had claimed that it was actually her (Sarah’s) own youngest child Trig. A totally untrue story, in fact, an out and out lie! But the liberal media picked it up and repeated it and that began the uproar that followed.

Being faced with this reality, Sarah Palin disclosed that her 17-year old daughter Bristol was in fact five months pregnant and had welcomed that their daughter had come to them with the news and that she and her husband of twenty years were looking forward to becoming grandparents. And while they were at it, the Palin’s also disclosed that husband Todd had been arrested for a DUI infraction in 1986. This was all the media membership at large needed to continue the smears in earnest: Their focus changed quickly. Forget about the rumor and go after a 17-year old pregnant teenager and pull her through the mud. The attacks came from all corners of their interest groups and they began to ask questions about Sarah Palin’s character, priorities and experience. There was even a strong display of indignation why Sarah Palin thought that she could juggle her roles as mother and Vice-President and it was concluded by the pundits that she was therefore not qualified for that job. Their opinions and voices grew stronger and they even added a number of other rumored stories to the mix. It was clearly and not just in our opinion a joint effort to discredit Sarah Palin and can only be called an orchestrated effort by the vast liberal media to exercise an unmerciful attempt of personal destruction of an ideological opponent; a conservative pro-life woman!

But they were in for a big surprise last Wednesday night: They found out rather directly that they had not succeeded to intimidate Sarah Palin but instead had brought out in her the great ability to not only defend herself but to go on the attack against them. During Palin’s speech at the Republican convention, strong and brilliantly delivered, she addressed them, called them out and gave back effectively in a very classy, humorous and charming way. She told them that she was not interested in getting along with them, instead, she was coming to Washington D.C. if victorious in November to go to work for and serve the American people.

Consider Common Sense is convinced that the media will continue their attacks and sniping against Sarah Palin, will look for anything to say against her even if it based on lies and rumors and the like. The only rational and common sense response to something like that is for the American public to ignore them, simply stop reading their negative attacks (aka hatred and ‘garbage’) and push the ‘mute’ button when they show up on television news or talk shows. We do not need smear campaigns; we need honesty and truths and when they, the media membership, cannot deliver as such, stop paying attention to them. They are a vindictive, mean-spirited, arrogant and elitist bunch of creatures who cannot feel good about themselves unless they can destroy others who do not share their beliefs!
