With just three weeks to go until the Mid-term elections, it becomes quite clear that the Democrats in Congress only have one plank in their platform: Since they apparently do not want to run on their record “accomplishments” of the last two years in Congress, they are reduced to their one last, yet often successfully used platform: The smear and slander of their opponents!!!
And it is not just happening in Congressional races, it is also quite evident in gubernatorial duels in several States. And with the ever compliant liberal media in their corner, there is absolutely no problem in expanding the slander and baseless lies and distortions. One of the most egregious ones is the Governors race in California where Democrat Jerry Brown with the help of some of his fanatical liberal supporters made an issue out of a non-issue. The Republican candidate, Meg Whitman, had employed for about nine years a Mexican housekeeper hired through an employment agency who had the required legal documentation to work in California. When Ms. Whitman let it be known in April of 2009 that she planned to run for Governor, the housekeeper confessed to her employer in June 2009 that she had worked for her wrongly with forged documents and committed perjury when signing some papers falsely and was illegally in this country. Ms. Whitman was surprised (and disappointed) and did what she had to do, she terminated the employment with Nicky Diaz and that was it. Until Jerry Brown and his cohorts got word of this episode and decided to “out” the former Whitman housekeeper, Ms. Nicky Diaz Santillan, parade her in front of cameras with her notorious attorney Gloria Allred and accuse Meg Whitman of wrongly employing an illegal alien. The result of this action is now that it has been turned into the major campaign issue in California and the liberal media just loves to keep this non-story alive.
For any objective observer, it should be quite clear that this is nothing but smear and slander in its purest form. The State of California is confronted with major budgetary issues and other problems that are truly troublesome and while Ms. Whitman is trying to stay on message and desires to present her plans and solutions to the voting public, the liberal media will not allow her to do so but instead will do anything to keep this “ illegal housekeeper” issue in the minds of the voters.
And this is not the only race where the Democrats have resorted to this shameful behavior. In the State of Delaware the Republican candidate, Ms. Christine O’Donnell, is being attacked for comments she made more than a decade ago about things she had done or participated in in high school, more than twenty years earlier. And the media plays right along and explodes these kinds of stories. Nothing seems to matter to them – the media membership – but the election of their like-minded liberal Democrat party candidates. This has happened before, of course, and it has worked well in the past. For example, Senator Barbara Boxer from California has won all her previous elections by slandering and smearing her opponents with successful character assassinations.
It remains to be seen, how successful these tactics will work this year. The people in America are in general not satisfied with how the President and his Democrats in Congress have handled things at all, especially as they pertain to the economy. Will the smears and slanders once again convince some (a majority of) voters that the Democrats are preferable to Republicans? Common Sense Politics should get the answer to this question and know in about three weeks. It would be a shame if smears and slander win out again!
