Investigating Bush crimes – why stop there?

May 25th, 2009 by admin

For several weeks if not months now, President Barack Obama and some of his administration members have been making statements in regards to investigating crimes committed by members of the Bush administration. The one particular item of contention is supposedly Torture and Water boarding of terrorists. Liberals and their fanatical cohorts have been railing for years against these brutal treatments of terrorists held in the Guantanamo prison and expect now from President Obama that he pursue criminal actions against his predecessor and several members of the Bush administration. Incidentally, members of America’s Special Forces Units (Navy Seals etc) are being water boarded as part of their training. Is it not funny that this is perfectly ok with the liberal establishment to do this to our troops who are there to defend us, yet it is not allowed and ‘criminal’ when we apply some of these procedures (known as ‘enhanced interrogation techniques’, or EIT’s for short) on terrorists, people that are out to harm (kill) us? The double standard of liberals never ceases to amaze us here at Common Sense University.

Not willing to pursue such a radical course to have President Bush indicted on criminal charges for ordering water boarding on a few terrorists, Obama has apparently been wavering as to what action to take, if any. On the one hand, his liberal support base put some heavy demands on him on this particular issue in order to satisfy their hatred of George W. Bush, on the other hand, Obama recognized that this would really drive a huge wedge in the American public. So, he has been wavering….and wavering.

Until they now apparently think they found a less drastic solution: Not to go after Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld or other high ranking officials personally but to pursue a course of action against the attorneys in the Justice Department who wrote the Bush-era interrogation memos in support of water boarding some terrorists. Therefore Obama ordered to release some of these memos in a slightly redacted form to the public. The real purpose of this action is totally unclear to our way of thinking. Was it to appease their liberal Bush-haters? We don’t know. While some members of the current administration and even the President himself came out publicly that there would be no criminal charges filed against anybody, the President reversed himself one day recently and told the press that he would leave it to the Attorney General (Eric Holder) to make such a decision.

The way things stand right now, the main targets of criticism are attorneys John Yoo (now a law professor at the University of California Berkeley), Jay Bybee (currently a federal appellate court judge in Nevada) and Steven Bradbury and depending on the final decision by the Attorney General with the President’s approval, these three guys will either get criminally indicted or disbarred or walk free. Whatever the action will be, this is despicable and totally unprecedented in American history. But then, Barack Obama had promised during his campaign and he is now apparently delivering on changing America drastically.

We here at Common Sense University believe, that they should consider not to stop with these three guys. If they were serious about improving America’s image to improve around the world and to live up to our moral standards they should also – folks, hang on to your seats – go after previous miscreants in this country’s history. This would mean that we would file criminal charges against

  • President George Washington for being a slave owner, same for other men such as Thomas Jefferson and almost all Founding Fathers of the United States.,
  • President Abraham Lincoln for suspended ‘habeas corpus’ during the Civil War,
  • President Franklyn D. Roosevelt for imprisoning thousands of Japanese during WWII,
  • President Harry Truman for dropping nuclear bombs on Japan at the end of WWII,
  • other Republican Presidents for committing crimes against humanity.
  • the members of the Supreme Court for allowing the death penalty to be the law of the land.

We are serious, if we want to clean up America’s image, let’s do it all and not just peace meal. Please President Obama, show us your mettle and steel. Remember the old adage: No guts – no glory!

How about the mass murder of Americans in Twin Towers on 911? Is it okay?
